Should You Remodel the Master Bedroom?
When looking to update a home, most home owners go straight for the kitchen! Kitchen updates give a great value to the home but when forgetting all the other rooms, it can be detrimental to the value of your investment. Especially the master bedroom, home owners tend to forget to give it a proper makeover.
Many buyers look at the kitchen first then walk straight over to the master bedroom, finding that all that’s been done is a fresh layer of paint. You don’t want that to be your case! So, here’s a few things that could be done to spice up that Master Bedroom and get a 40-80% return on investment.
Adding square footage to the closet can be one easy update to the room or expanding/updating the master bathroom. Many buyers are reeled in by stand-up tiled showers with dual shower heads over the basic bathtub look. You don’t necessarily have to remove the bath tub, however, if you have space to add the shower on the side that’s a big eye catcher. Walk-in closets are just about a must in a master bedroom. If conveniently placed near the bathroom then it looks even better. Good lighting can also make the room look bigger as well as the right type of furniture being used.
Typically, a master bedroom and bath updates can range from $3,000 to $10,000. If repurposing existing space like knocking down walls to expand this area, it could be a little more in cost. With that said, when looking at the value it gives to the home it’s pretty much worth the time and money.
